Hampi Stone Chariot(Kallina Ratha)

History The Hampi "Stone Chariot" in kannada known as "Kallina Ratha". This is often referred as the flagship of tourist attraction of Hampi. As the name suggests,this is not a chariot ;  it is a shrine built like a chariot. An image of Garuda was originally enshrined within its sanctum, Garuda accordingly to the Hindu mythology,is the vehicle of Lord Vishnu. There was even a dome like superstructure over the Hampi stone chariot. That too is missing now. We can see them on the first ever photographs of Hampi taken in 1856 by Alexander Greenlaw. This stone chariot is located inside the Vittala temple campus,that is situated in the north eastern part of Hampi. Introduction Rangoli , also known as Kolam  or  Muggu , is a folk art  from India in which patterns are created on the floor in living rooms or courtyards using materials such as colored rice, dry flour, colored sand or flower petals. It is usually made during  Deepawali, Onam , Pongaland  other Indian festivals. They are meant to be sacred welcoming areas for the Hindu deities generation to the next, keeping both the art form and the tradition alive.  Similar practices are followed in different states of India: Kolam  in Tamil Nadu; Mandana  in Rajasthan; Chaookpurna  in Chhattisgarh ; Alpana  in West Bengal ; Aripana  in bihar ; Chowk pujan in Uttar Pradhesh ; Muggu in Andhra Pradhesh ;Golam kolam or kalam in Kerala and others. Introduction           The art of applying henna in hands and feet is known as Mehendi. This is a popular art in these modern days. In the 12th century mughals brought Mehendi(Lawsonia inermis) the small small tropical shrubs to India. In the 17th century in India the barber's wife was usually employed for applying henna on women.           Mehendi play a vital role in the Hindu wedding which includes various religious rites before and during the nuptials.  Mehendi or henna is derived from the sanskrit word mendhika. The origin can be from Egypt because it was one of the art forms in Egypt. It has the evidence that it has been found that henna was used to stain the fingers and toes of pharaohs earlier to mummification.
